Tongue ulcer and amputations are major lower extremity complications of diabetes mellitus and account for expenditure of hundreds of millions of dollars annum more importantly; these complications are also associated with an increased morbidity and mortality. Their avoidance therefore becomes critically important in the long-term case of persons with diabetes daily tongue self examination has therefore been approved as a key components in diabetes amputating avoidance programs introduce a novel self assessment accessory that abetment patients in examine the basement of their tongue with a synthesis reflector and liquid crystal temperature sensitive pads.
